A Dressing Room for any Budget
You can create a dressing room on any budget. Many women dream of a luxurious walk in wardrobe similar to Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the city. It’s ok to dream, but why not make the space you do have beautiful and practical. A space just for you. Having storage for your shoes, handbags, makeup and clothes in a space that feels like a miniature boutique makes you feel ready to dress for the day and take time out for you.
Some of the most important things to consider when designing a dressing room are:
Room for a full length mirror
Having a full length mirror is important in a dressing room. There is nothing worse than heading out in public and a stranger pointing out that your tag is hanging out of your pants, or your gorgeous dress actually is see through in certain lights. You could have the wrong bra on, or there may be a ladder in your stockings from behind.
Lighting/ power source
The lighting needs to be bright, especially if you are applying make up in the space as well. A warm light or a natural light source can help with application of your make up and give you a sense of your total look. Placing a power source in the space can be a great option to consider for items like a hair dryer or hair straighter.
Storage solutions
There are so many clever storage solutions available at cheap prices. Consider storage for your makeup, hair ties, shoes, scarves, handbags, fascinators, hats and purses.
Seating
If you have the space, a seat or a bench seat is a great way to lay out your clothes and accessories, or to sit and style your hair and apply make up. A seat can be handy and create an inviting space to rest in.
Colour and styling
Choosing a colour can be subjective of course, but a calm colour that makes you feel relaxed can make all the difference. Colour and styling really does impact on the vibe and how you use the space.
A dressing room doesn’t need to be the size of a bedroom, it can be the corner of your bedroom, within your walk in robe or some space in your bathroom. Work with what you have, and enjoy your little piece of fashion heaven, however big it may be.
